Dawn chorus camp-out

Event Time: 19:00-04:00 / Event Location: Purecamping, Querrin, Loop Head Peninsula, Co. Clare

At this time of the year, our woodland is bursting with sound. Join us to experience this cacophony of bird-song from the comfort of your tent, or take a walk through the trails at dawn (around 4-4:30am). Email to make a booking. Numbers will be limited.

We will have a campfire going the evening before and will all be tucked into our sleeping bags nice and early to prepare for the morning wake-up call! Bring warm clothes, a camping chair and your tent of course. Small tents good as we will be camping together in the woodland. Usual camping rates apply.

The RTE Mooney Goes Wild article really sums it up:

“Each morning in May, as the first glimmer of light begins to break the darkness of European skies, millions of birds begin to sing.  Each individual bird does this for two key reasons: to lay claim to a breeding territory and to attract a mate.  The birds can’t know this, but to human ears the collective effect is like nothing else in the world.

The wall of sound which the birds produce moves like a great wave across the face of the earth, just as it has done without fail for millions of years, as our planet revolves and the line of dawn shifts westwards.  It provides us with an astonishing insight into how our world functions, breathtaking and humbling in equal measure, as well as into the sheer diversity and majesty of nature.

Birds know no boundaries, and their songs have the power to connect us all in a unique way, right across the continent.  As it moves from east to west with the rising sun, the Dawn Chorus represents a genuine shared link between all of Europe’s people, transcending national borders and cultures.”

Yoga and Vegan cooking Retreat

Event Time: 18:00 / Event Location: Purecamping, Querrin, Loop Head Peninsula, Co. Clare

The sun stops (Grianstad in Irish) and so should you…

Take that breath with Trea and delve into deliciousness with Siobhán on this Yoga and Vegan cooking retreat.

Settle into your cabin or bell tent and after you unpack, join me in the beautifully restored and bright Yoga room for some gentle Yoga and Yoga Nidra relaxation to help you arrive and connect with the space. We will explore the energising practice of Surya Namaskar in synch with this Summer Solstice period. You will learn a breathing technique or pranayama practice and a short meditation that you can continue on at home if you like.  You will have both Yoga Nidra and Night-time meditation to help you settle into restful sleep in this natural peaceful setting.

“I grew up in London, where I trained and worked as a chef, in Spanish and English restaurants, before finally running my own kitchen. Specialising in vegetarian and vegan food, I was able to incorporate my love of Mediterranean cuisine and create healthy, colourful, vibrant dishes that are both nourishing and indulgent.

I moved to Ireland with my children, in 2015, and started ‘The Naked Forager’ business, a wild food initiative, that aims to share the joy and knowledge of sustainable wild harvesting.

In the kitchen with me, you will learn how to cook nourishing vegetarian food that you can add your own flair to. We will create dishes that are full of colour and beauty, using as many locally sourced ingredients as we can. Perhaps, we’ll even add a few seasonal ingredients too!

I look forward to seeing you all in the kitchen and getting creative together!” Siobhán, ‘The Naked Forager’

Q: Do you need previous experience of Yoga or Meditation before?
A: Absolutely not. Classes are adapted to the levels of all students needs.

Q: Do you need to be fit?
A: Not particularly. You might be recuperating from an illness and might need to use this weekend to get a deep and restorative rest. You can choose to lie in Shavasana if things get too much for you and that is absolutely acceptable and recommended.

Q: Would it be suitable for families?
A: This particular weekend is not really suitable for children as there is no specific program on for them and we would like to give the practice space over to adults on this weekend.

Q: Will there be other children on site (at Purecamping)
A: There may be other children on site staying with families that are on holidays here. It will be fairly minimal though as the school holidays are over and children are back into their school routine.
