Dog Policy at Purecamping
We think that we are dog friendly, but we have some restrictions. Over the years, we’ve tried everything from doggie tents within tents, but experience has shown it to be difficult to manage well if folks are not in their own tent.
Over the years we’ve tried to accommodate dogs and puppies with varying levels of success. We’ve had mixed experiences. For example, at the extreme end of things, we have had one of our cats mauled and killed. Not the dog’s fault, just its owner allowing a child to be in control of the him 🙁
So, we still welcome dogs, but not currently in our furnished bell tents or cabins (with the exception of the Holly open plan cabin), as we’ve had problems with removing every doggie hair and doggie trace in the past. The problem arises with subsequent guests being allergic to animals. 🙁
As an alternatively, we have a local dog-minding service, where your dog can stay with Sandy at night (doggy B&B) and be with you and yours during the day. Contact Sandy at 089 438 1247. Sandy is based in Doonaha, which is about 5km from us. Sandy offers day care, full board, and doggy B&B. When on site (even the woodland), as we have a responsibility to our own dogs, cats, hens, and donkeys and we just ask that dogs be on leads and that any deposits be moved off the paths into the copious amounts of bushes that we have… We find this preferable to wrapping in plastic bags and sending to landfill…
I hope that you understand our current policy. It’s not that we haven’t tried… We’d bought doggie cages so that pups could sleep in our tents at night, but inevitably soft furnishings are irresistible to all dogs and it’s difficult for guests to 100% police the situation.
